The Afro Break Championships 2026 – East Africa Qualifiers will officially take place from 28–30 August 2026, bringing together the region’s top breaking talent for one of the most important continental platforms for Hip-Hop culture.

Organized through a strong collaboration between Afro Break Concepts , Africa Breaking Academy , SKillz Dance Fest , and Dance Nexus , the event will once again position East Africa as a key contributor to the growth of breaking across the African continent.

The three-day program will feature business discussions, talk shows, community workshops, and the official championship qualifiers, offering dancers, cultural leaders, and creative entrepreneurs a space to exchange ideas while celebrating the artistry and competitive spirit of breaking.

“Through this collaboration we expect to continue maintaining the momentum and growth of breaking across Africa. It is also a great opportunity to showcase the best talent East Africa has to offer,” says Bboy Xiimocca, creator of the Skillz Dance Festival.

Building on Last Year’s Momentum

The 2026 qualifiers build on the momentum created during the previous edition, where two East African representatives advanced to the continental finals in Accra, Ghana.

Uganda’s Bboy Pencil and the Democratic Republic of Congo’s Bboy Lil Dan represented the region at the finals hosted in Accra , joining breakers from across the continent in a celebration of African Hip-Hop excellence.

Reflecting on the experience, Bboy Pencil (Uganda) shared:

“The trip to Accra was eye-opening and challenging, and meeting breakers from across Africa was very powerful.”

For Bboy Lil Dan (DRC), the moment carried deep personal and cultural meaning:

“It was nice to represent my country, my family, and my crew at the finals last year. Thanks to Bboy Lyrics and the entire team for making it happen.”

Their participation demonstrated the growing strength of the East African breaking community and highlighted the importance of regional qualifiers in connecting dancers to continental opportunities.

A Continental Cultural Movement

The Afro Break platform continues to position breaking as both artistic expression and cultural identity across Africa.

According to Bböy Lyricx, founder and creator of Afro Break Championships

“Afrobreak is more than dance — it’s Africa speaking through rhythm. Every step is freedom, every spin is identity, and every battle is a story of where we come from. It reminds the world that our culture moves, evolves, and speaks through every dancer.”

A Cultural Gathering Beyond Competition

Beyond the championship stage, the Afro Break Championships East Africa Qualifiers will create a multi-layered Hip-Hop experience open to the wider community. The program will include Hip-Hop element workshops, community tour sessions, cyphers, talk sessions, and an after-party, bringing together dancers, artists, fans, and cultural enthusiasts.

By combining competition, education, and community engagement, the event continues to strengthen networks across Africa while nurturing the next generation of breaking talent.

More details on venues, registration, and the full program schedule will be announced soon.
