Battles
The battles are the heartbeat of Skillz Dance Fest—where artistry, energy, and competition collide on the ultimate stage. Across three categories—Breaking, Afro Fusion, and Krump—dancers bring their skills, stories, and styles into the spotlight, testing creativity, technique, and endurance in front of a live crowd and international judges.
The battle journey unfolds in two stages:
• Community Day (19th October 2025) – Open eliminations give every dancer a chance to prove themselves. Through 7-to-Smoke rounds, knockout eliminations, and raw Krump sessions, the field narrows to the Top 8 dancers per category. Wildcards and Bgirl Spotlights ensure diversity, inclusion, and grassroots talent recognition.
• Main Festival Battles (14th–15th November 2025) – The Top 8 finalists in each category face off in 1v1 knockout battles. Quarterfinals and semifinals on Day 1 set the stage for electrifying finals on Day 2, where champions are crowned in Breaking, Afro Fusion, and Krump.
With high-profile DJs, MCs, and judges fueling the energy, the battles go beyond competition—they are a celebration of skill, identity, and community, transforming the festival into East Africa’s ultimate urban dance arena.

Breaking
Breaking is the foundation of hip-hop battles, built on explosive power moves, intricate footwork, freezes, and musicality. At Skillz Dance Fest, breakers prove their creativity and endurance through 7-to-Smoke eliminations on Community Day, where only the strongest secure a place in the Top 8. In the Main Festival Arena, these Top 8 go head-to-head in 1v1 knockout battles until a champion is crowned. The format ensures breakers showcase not just style and originality, but also strategy and consistency across rounds.

Krumpin
Krump is a raw, powerful dance form defined by intensity, character, and emotional storytelling. At Skillz, the format captures its raw spirit: dancers enter all-in eliminations and raw sessions on Community Day, battling through sheer energy and presence to secure their spot in the Top 8 bracket. In the Main Festival Arena, finalists clash in 1v1 knockout rounds, delivering explosive performances where every chest pop, stomp, and arm swing becomes a statement. This battle structure amplifies Krump’s essence—unapologetic, cathartic, and larger than life.

Afro - Styles
Afro Styles is a celebration of Africa’s cultural heartbeat—blending traditional dance roots with modern Afrobeat energy and contemporary flair. At Skillz, dancers face off in large pool eliminations on Community Day, where judges score rhythm, flow, and storytelling to select the Top 8 finalists. In the Main Festival Arena, these finalists battle in 1v1 knockout duels, each round demanding more precision, creativity, and stage presence.
