Nalubaale Dance Retreat: The Portal Into Skillz Dance Fest 2025

As we step into the ninth edition of Skillz Dance Fest, we are reminded of why this journey began — the power of dance to awaken spirit, heal community, and reconnect us to the pulse of culture. This year, we are elevating that purpose with a brand-new opening experience: The Nalubaale Dance Retreat.

Set on the tranquil shores of Lake Victoria, the retreat invites dancers, movers, creators, and seekers into an immersive world where nature, rhythm, and wellbeing come into perfect sync. For 24 hours, movement becomes meditation. Every step becomes a story. Every breath becomes a bridge between the inner and outer world.

A Journey on Water, Land & Spirit

The adventure begins at Ggaba Landing Site, where our community will gather, board boats, and sail toward Mutima Beach — a land embraced by Lake Nalubaale’s ancient energy. Upon arrival, dancers will embark on a curated lineup of experiences:

Why Nalubaale?

Lake Victoria — known as Nalubaale — is more than a lake.

It is a sacred site rooted in Indigenous cosmology. It holds stories, spirits, and pathways through which dance becomes a vessel of remembrance.

As we celebrate 9 years of the festival, we honor the water as a source of life, creativity, and movement — the perfect beginning for the biggest dance celebration in East Africa.
